With this simple hook, we are led into a story that is full of love, family, and emotions. What if the critically acclaimed Mumbai Dabbawala misplaced a lunchbox? The story of Lunchbox revolves around an Indian housewife and an older man. So, on a parting note, it’s been a year of highs and lows for horror flicks.Let’s start our article with one of the most under-rated and a gem of a movie produced by Bollywood which is The Lunchbox. Nothing too frightening enough to make this count amongst the good horror films that we experienced this year. Sadly, the last of the scary lot, Lupt starring Jaaved Jaaferi and Vijay Raaz was a predictable tale of a road trip turning into the worst nightmare for those involved. A visually startling film, Tummbad may not be the commercially hyped horror flick known to the neighbour next door, but it certainly managed to create a lasting impression on the minds of viewers. Helmed by debut director Rahi Anil Barve and starring Sohum Shah and Mohammad Samad in main roles, Tummbad had all the elements of horror and fantasy combined. Stree confortably slipped into the 100 crore club. With hilarious dialogues infused in a spooky, suspenseful thriller, it had the right balance needed to qualify for a perfect horredy. Featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, Stree had all the elements in place to horrify and tickle you in equal measures. It earned mixed reviews and faired decently at the box office.īased on the Indian urban legend Nale Ba, a spirit who knocks on people’s doors late in the night and takes away the men of the house, Stree can be regarded as one of the best horror comedies in Bollywood so far. Pari had its fair share of scares and turned out to be a bloodied gory affair. Well-known Bengali actor Parambrata Chatterjee was paired opposite Anushka. The movie spearheaded by Anushka Sharma showed her in a never-seen-before light, a woman with an unfulfilled motive. A love story infused amidst the backdrop of a huge palace, a trademark symbol for Vikram Bhatt movies, this had nothing new to offer and infact was stale in comparison to its predecessor.Īnushka Sharma’s production house touched bas on an unexplored subject around the concept of Ifrit and Auladhchakra, a satani cult in Bangladesh. Starring Karan Kundra and Zareen Khan in lead roles, the movie failed to evoke a great response from the viewers and was limited to another below average flick that tried really hard to terrify. Vikram Bhatt’s spooky spin-off from the 1920 film series, began the year for us.
